Boobie Post

My bro-in-law (though I like to think of him as my own brother) and his wife (though I like to think of her as my own sister--ok, I know what that sounds like, but you know I don't mean anything weird by it! Sheesh) welcomed their first child into the world Saturday morning.
My baby nephew is beautiful. That's right. I said beautiful. For a boy. What're you going to do about it? It fits him perfectly.
I cannot wait to see him in person and to hug him and kiss him and to just love on him.
This baby has been very emotional for me, and I am not even his mom! When they told us they were pregnant I cried for a week. Seriously. I was that excited. And a little heartbroken. Knowing I wouldn't get to see my sis as she grew and feel the baby move inside her, and won't be close enough to see him as often as I would like once he is born...
And then at Easter my sister in law sent us a card with an ultrasound pic and the card read "Hi Buckners! I wanted to wish you a Happy Easter and let you know I'm excited to meet you. Love Baby Buckner"
Yeah.
That one did me in all over again. I cried on and off about that one for a few days.
I know. I am a total weenie.
And today I cried when I saw the baby pics. And just now I cried when my brother told me that he just loves him. Just loves him so completely. And can't wait to see him grow, and go fishing with him, and hiking with him, and...well, I didn't really hear much else, because I was crying so hard.
What a boob.

So THAT's why boxers are so ripped...

So...sore...and so...loving it!

So Friday evening-ish I went to LA Boxing for my trial workout. SO FUN!
I mean, it was hard. It totally kicked my *beep* but I loooved it. I really do better when there is someone there pushing me (mentally, not actually pushing me around), yelling at me (again, in a positive way) and cheering me on. Which is exactly what Rolando did. And why I am in love. JUST KIDDING.
No, it was really great. First they wrapped my hands with gauze and stuff to protect my knuckles and fingers. Then they gave me some loaner gloves (Eeeewww!) and placed me behind a punching bag.
Then the instructor was late and we had to wait. BUT then he got there and made us go out back to the rear parking lot and run laps. I know. I was like, 'excuse me...i so did not sign up for RUNNING'. But, I'm a trooper, or try to be at least, and so I ran.
I am not a runner. I made it through two laps and my breathing was so bad I had to move over and let people pass me up...because he had us running in a single-file line and I was in the middle. But I walked/ran/walked the last part and then we went inside and started warming up. I won't go through all of that, but we did a LOT of work with a medicine ball, and squats and pushups and plank poses and lunges and THEN we put on our gloves.
He paired me and my friend with more experienced people which was good, because the guy I sparred with was nice, but also encouraging. He said I was punching really well. I had good form. Eeek!!! I know, I was really excited.
I will just say that I r-e-a-l-l-y enjoyed punching that bag. It was funny, though, because my partner said, 'ok, so just pretend that the bag is your last jerk of a boyfriend'. And I thought. Sheesh. I can't think back that far! Then I thought, well, I'll just imagine it is someone I hate enough to punch. But couldn't actually picture anyone there, either. I know, right?! What is wrong with me? So then I figured I'd put all my energy into it and just imagine I was beating the snot out of Satan. Yes, I realize that sounds really weird, but he and I seem to be locked in a battle of sorts right now anyway, so I figured I might as well punch on a bag about it...instead of anyone else who might get in the way. But I digress...

Back to my report: So after punching, we had to do MORE pushups. And lunges. And these things where we roll ourselves down to touch the ground and then roll back up and jump up with our hands in the air.

Then we punched again. And the last 5 minutes was 'freestyle'. We could punch however we wanted to. Can I tell you, I was a little bit terrified of the guy I was next to (not my partner). That bag was bouncing around like crazy as he punched and kicked and jabbed and kicked and all with this real intense look on his face. Seriously, the guy was a beast. I actually stopped to watch him for a few seconds--I couldn't help it. It was cool and scary and a little sexy all at the same time. Who knew?

So I want to go back. I just need to find someone who doesn't want their membership anymore, because it is transferrable and then it would save me some moolah. Which would be nice.

Oh, and at the end, I kept coughing and wheezing while talking to the lady about membership. No, it wasn't a distractionary tactic, though that would have been brilliant! No, I just couldn't quite get a full breath of air into my lungs. Two of the people there were like, 'do you have asthma?' and I said, 'no'. And they looked at me and were like, "I think you have asthma" and my friend who was there with me (who actually does have asthma) says, "you sound like me when I don't have my inhaler." So that's nice. I have been having trouble breathing lately, even just washing dishes or talking to someone or...breathing. So I guess I better go check that out now. Ugh.

There IS one drawback from the LA Boxing experience: No, not sore muscles, but the stench. No, not my body sweat...though, I don't think I smelled like a fresh spring day. I am talking about my hands. They STANK so bad. Oh, it was so gross. I had to wash my hands several times to get the smell off. I am assuming it was the loaner gloves. MY gloves would never smell like that. ;)

GGOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!

I just have to announce that I have made my goal of 32 lbs down before I turn 32! Oh, and look, 6 weeks early! Whew! Guess I'll just have to keep going! Here's to that last 32 and to the next 32 that I have to lose to be the skinny minny I was 11 years ago! C'mon, Adrienne. You can do it...

Mama said knock you out!

I'm going to knock you out!

Or, I will....eventually. Because I am going to LA Boxing for my free workout. Wooooo hooo!!!
I am super excited.

I always wanted to take up boxing but always had some reason or another why I couldn't do it. I'm too fat (well, down 30 lbs, so, now I am less) or I am too small (well, I'm still short, but what are you going to do?) or I would cry if someone hit me.

Right now, I am ready to kick some trash. Someone told me it is because I have anger right now, but I don't feel any anger for my struggles. I think she would just like me to be angry. But right now I don't need to. She's doing it for me. Isn't that what friends are for? :)

But I have been learning a lot about myself lately. I am tougher on the inside than I ever knew, and I think with a little training I can be tougher on the outside, too.

I see they even have a fight club.
But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself... ;)

Sometimes you just have to laugh

OK. I like to think of myself as more caring, and less snarky or mean than most people. I said I like to think of myself that way, I didn't mean that I actually am, because clearly I am not. If I were, do you think I would link to this?
http://www.bonniehunt.com/videos/ Now, toward the bottom is a selection of videos to choose from, choose 'top rated' and look for Josh and Jennifer Dancing. Seriously, you must watch it.

Now, I don't like to make fun of people who are bad dancers...partly because one might call me a bad dancer (but one wouldn't because I am a 'safe' dancer--I do the same basic steps that don't get noticed by anyone) And I especially felt bad that this guy clearly thinks he is an amazing dancer, when he looked like he was made of noodles and got pulled around by his belt loops. It is something amazing to see, let me tell you.

But it really gets going when the woman gets up to dance with him. Wow. Who would have thought that dancing could be so dangerous?!

I tried to link it to the video directly, but couldn't find any way to do so. Sorry!

Eighteen down

Fourteen to go. Well, fourteen until I get to the 32 by 32 goal. I am sure I will make it, and secretly have added another hopeful 10 to that 14. Wouldn't 42 lbs down by the time I turn 32 be way better? I know. I think so, too. I just need to get moving on the workout aspect. I was doing real well for like, 2 weeks. And since I started South Beach-ing it I haven't worked out at all.
Buck, however has lost MUCH more than I have. I'm not too upset by it, though I thought I would be. I think I'm just keeping a realistic point of view.

OH! And dinner is taken care of tonight for the kids! Oprah.com and KFC joined up for the day and are giving FREE 2pc meals of their new Grilled Chicken. Yum. So I got 4 coupons, and am heading over tonight!

Good intentions and even gooder friends

OK. I know that 'gooder' isn't a word, but I used it anyway. Hey, Shakespeare made up words, why can't I? Wouldn't it be cool if I could make up lots of words and get them used in daily speech by people all over? Oh, wait. Then I'd have to be a rapper. Well, I don't know if I'm ready to make that sort of commitment...
Anyway. Back to my post.
So I have a girlfriend who also lives here in CO (both of our families moved over here from CA) that I knew well in high school. We've been out here for a long time but just finally decided that we need to get together every over month for a girl's night out. And we have been doing just that. Actually, she's been great about calling and keeping us on track.
A few months ago we went out for dinner, then we went to a NKOTB concert (her husband won tickets and refused to go with her--I swear we didn't go out and BUY the tickets), then we got together to let the kids play while we chatted. Then for April I couldn't do the original date so we moved it to tonight.
But I'm tired. And I feel like snuggling up under a blanket and watching a movie with the family and going to bed early. Maybe wearing my jammies starting 6 pm. Mmmm. My eyelids are getting heavy as I speak.
So I debated calling and cancelling. And I decided to just call and feel her out. So we chitchatted on the phone for a few minutes and then she says, 'so are you still ok with tonight?' and said 'yeah, actually, and I was wondering' but here she cut me off and said, 'Cuz would you be upset if I tell you that I'm tired?' And I was sooo grateful to have a friend who understands me!
SO I'm going to shut up and change out of these jeans...

Note to self:
Tuesday, May 28 th was when I began (day 1) of my reading every single day for a whole year etc. etc. etc. So May 27th, 2010 will be the last day to complete my goal.
